The reason I’ve written this article is because the same search engine related questions get asked again and again. “Why doesn’t my site rank in search engine X?”, “How do I improve my ranking for term Y?”, “How do I get more traffic to my site?” etc. etc.
Rather than trying to explain the theory I have used an real site City Challenge to give examples of techniques used to rank well on search engines. The reason I used this site is:
The company is small
The site is small (less than 50 pages)
They don’t have a humungous budget for development
The idea is to prove that you don’t need to be a giant company with masses of cash in order to get results.
Throughout the article I have referred to Google. Much of the time you can substitute Google for any search engine of your choice. I refer to Google out of habit. It’s the most popular search engine and it drives to most traffic to the City Challenge site. Simple!
